Before leaving your boat in storage for the off season, you should go through and remove any valuables and electronics. Electrical items tend to suffer in cold weather, even when disabled, so taking them home to a climate controlled space can prevent problems the next season. You should also pack up all safety devices, flares, fire extinguishers, and flotation devices. Winter is a good time to look over these items and make sure they are in good working order and clean or replace them as necessary.

As boating season ends and the cold weather sets in it is important to protect the investment you have made in your boat by making sure that you winterize it properly. Failing to properly prepare your boat for the winter season can lead to problems while your boat is in storage, leading to a good chance that you will have to make additional repairs to your boat in the spring.
